Brand is personal. We get that here at Carl Designs, which is why we are so proud to bring a personal touch to your brand strategy. So are you curious who you'll be working with? Check out our team:
The principal, founder, and namesake of Carl Designs, Carl Cummings developed his skillset for holistic thinking while working with brands such as Starbucks and Microsoft. He is adept at helping realize the goals of a company, and then implementing a plan of action to make those goals attainable. He started Carl Designs because he enjoys the freedom that having a small studio allows, as well as the opportunity to build personal relationships with each client. There is a level of satisfaction obtained from “being small, but able to deliver a big punch.”
Carl spends his time devoted to his work at Carl Designs, but admitted that he daydreams about when he’ll have time to travel, meet new people, paint and simply enjoy being. Occasionally the rest of the team can convince Carl to take bit of a break, usually involving a bribe in the form of pizza. He does make a point of getting the Milwaukee Art Museum at least once a month to spend a day immersed in his favorite examples of design. When asked what super power he would like to have, his response was not simply a superpower, but an entire superhero persona (indicative of his usual big-picture thinking): Captain Obvious, who has the ability to identify obvious flaws or strengths that others often overlook, because it’s a skill set he uses on a daily basis in his work.
Pursuing her true passion for language, Bridgette McCormick is the content editor for Carl Designs. She is primarily responsible for blogging, as well as editing marketing materials such as social media content. She loves working with Carl Designs because of the shared passion for assisting socially responsible companies succeed. Also, because of the work dynamic of the agency; “It’s rare to find a group of people who mesh so well, and whose skills compliment each other as much as ours do.”
A self-diagnosed workaholic, Bridgette works as a freelance editor, and spends much of her time working from home or in local coffee shops. This allows her to combine most of her interests which include a compulsory devotion to coffee, supporting local business, and cuddling with her two cats in her home office. When she has free time, she enjoys reading and discussing philosophy, playing board games and going to Brewer games. Does insomnia count as a superpower? If so, that’s what Bridgette wanted her superpower to be. “Think of how productive I could be with those extra hours!”
The newest addition to the Carl Designs team, Kassee Homolka has come on board as our design intern. She’ll focus primarily on assisting Carl in designing new brand guidelines using Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator). One of the reasons she appreciates working with Carl is because “he is clear in what he wants and is flexible.” In addition to learning some new project management software tools, Kassee has also learned a lot about design and brand development from Carl, including the components of a brand guideline. “He has been super helpful and I feel that I am going to grow as a designer as well as be an asset here continuing into this summer. ”
Kassee is a full-time student at UW Milwaukee and works at Buca di Beppo in between studying and working for Carl. She enjoys dancing, going to concerts, eating tacos, hula-hooping, and working with fine art materials such as charcoal, pencil, pen, and ink. She’s interested in traveling, and wouldn't mind having a superpower that could be applicable; “I’m not sure how good I would be at flying to be honest, the heights might freak me out, so I think teleportation would be best!”
